RUTM56 Product Change Notifications

Product change notifications (PCN) is way of informing customers of upcoming changes related to Teltonika products. This includes outward appearance adjustments, hardware improvements, changes to package contents, etc.

This page stores information regarding changes made to the RUTM56 device. Below you will find a list of both upcoming and already implemented changes sorted from newest to oldest (top to bottom).

2025.08.25: Updated enclosure design

Starting from Q3 2025, the enclosure of RUTM56 devices will be replaced with a new single-piece anodized design.

Detailed description	The updated enclosure is now made from a single piece instead of two separate parts. Casing dimensions remain unchanged, but the depth and location of the grooves are different. See the images below for exact placement. Engraving will be used instead of stickers for markings. The new enclosure will be anodized instead of painted. Please note that this change will be implemented gradually, throughout a 3-month transitional period starting from Q3 2025. During this period, your shipments of RUTM56 may consist of either the current or the new enclosure as described above.

Change impact
Risk assessment	Marketing materials, such as photos, may need to be replaced. Engraved markings are permanent and cannot be removed like stickers. The anodized finish may alter the surface colour and reflectivity. Changes to groove depth and placement may affect accessory compatibility.

2025.08.21: eSIM Bootstrap capability

Starting from 2026 Q1, RUTM56 eSIM will include a bootstrap profile, which enables the download of an initial operational eSIM profile without requiring an additional internet connection.

Detailed description	• Addition of bootstrap profile to eSIM • Automated SIM switching functionality when no physical SIM is present and bootstrap profile is active • Device with active bootstrap profile will have access only to RMS (Remote Management System) with limited functionality and SM-DP server for downloading operational profile • Bootstrap profile has a 10 MB mobile data limit • Bootstrap profile is valid for 1 year, starting from the manufacturing date of the device Read the following eSIM Bootstrap guide to familiarize yourself with the functionality. Bootstrap functionality is officially supported from firmware version RUTM_R_00.07.17.2 or newer.

Risk assessment	• Device initial provisioning workflows may require review or adjustment to account for the presence of a bootstrap profile • Installation procedures or automated deployment tools may need to be updated if they rely on predefined SIM behavior • Automatic SIM switching will be enabled only on devices shipped with a pre-installed bootstrap profile — existing devices with eSIM but no bootstrap profile will not exhibit any behavioral changes • Devices manufactured over 12 months prior to activation may be unable to use the bootstrap profile due to expiration

2025.04.22: Transition to HTTPS protocol RutOS 7.15

With the release of RutOS version 7.15 in Q2 2025, RUTM56 devices will disable the HTTP protocol and enable HTTPS Redirect by default to enhance WebUI and API communication security.

Change type	RutOS Security Enhancement
Detailed description	With the release of RutOS version 7.15 firmware, the device's WebUI and API default communication methods will change. The HTTP protocol will be changed to HTTPS (only) in default configuration for security reasons and complying with security standards. The "HTTPS Redirect" functionality will be enabled by default so all HTTP requests will be automatically redirected through the HTTPS channel.
Change reasons	To enhance security measures and comply with security standards by eliminating unsecured HTTP protocol usage.

Change impact
Risk assessment	Users may receive a browser warning indicating that the connection is not secure due to the use of a self-signed certificate in HTTPS. API users may experience issues depending on the tools they use to communicate with the API, as some may not support HTTPS, self-signed certificates or the tooling may have to be reconfigured to adapt to these changes.
