Teltonika PROFINET Configurator Setup on Windows 11
This tutorial explains how to install and use the Teltonika PROFINET Configurator on Windows 11 to configure the SWM280 switch.
After assigning a suitable IP address and subnet mask, the WebUI of the SWM280 can be reached.
The SWM280 version with enabled PROFINET comes with the following factory settings:
- IP Address 0.0.0.0
- Netmask 255.255.255.0
- Gateway 0.0.0.0
Requirements
- Windows 11 PC
- SWM280
- Network cable connected from the PC to the SWM280 device
- Teltonika PROFINET Configurator installer
Step 1: Download the Installer
- Download the installer from this wiki page and locate it in your Downloads folder.
- Double-click the installer file and follow the setup wizard.
Press Next to continue.
Step 2: Complete Installation
When installation finishes, leave the checkboxes ticked to run the Configurator and create a desktop shortcut.
Step 3: Install WinPcap
The PROFINET Configurator requires WinPcap for network scanning. If prompted, install it by following the wizard.
Step 4: Run with Administrator Rights
When first launched, the Configurator may show an error that admin privileges are required.
Close the application, right-click the desktop shortcut, and select Run as administrator.
Step 5: Application Interface
After launching with admin rights, the application will open successfully.
ℹ️ The images show TSW202 because its interface and configuration process are identical to other PROFINET-supported devices, including the one used in this tutorial. This makes the instructions fully applicable across models.
Step 6: Select Network Interface
From the drop-down list, select the correct network adapter connected to the SWM280, then press Start Scan.
Step 7: Configure SWM280
The connected device (SWM280) will appear in the list.
Click Configure to assign the name, IP address, netmask, and gateway.
Enter the desired configuration and press Save & Apply.
Step 8: Confirm Device Configuration
After saving, a confirmation message will appear.
The SWM280 will now be listed with its new IP configuration.
Step 9: Access the WebUI
Open a browser and enter the assigned IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.2). The SWM280 WebUI login screen will appear.
Log in using your SWM280 device credentials. You will find the username and password are located on your device.

Teltonika PROFINET Configurator Setup on Linux (Ubuntu)
This tutorial explains how to install and use the Teltonika PROFINET Configurator on Linux (Ubuntu) configure the SWM280 switch.

Step 1: Download the application
- Download the application from this wiki page and locate it in your Downloads folder.
- AppImage is a universal way of running aplications on most of the Linux distributions, but it requires a few additional steps before you can run it.
Step 2: Make the AppImage Executable
Before running the application on Ubuntu, the AppImage file must be given execution permission.
Open a terminal in the folder where the file is located and enter:
chmod +x Teltonika\ PROFINET\ Configurator_0.1.0_amd64.AppImage
Step 3: Run the AppImage
The application must be executed with administrator sudo rights, because it requires elevated permissions for network scanning and device detection.
Requirement: Linux (Ubuntu 22.04) PC
Use the following command to run it:
sudo ./Teltonika\ PROFINET\ Configurator_0.1.0_amd64.AppImage
If you encounter an error such as **dlopen(): error loading libfuse.so.2**, it means that the required FUSE library is missing.
To fix it, install the necessary package using:
sudo apt update sudo apt install libfuse2
After installing, run the AppImage again with sudo:
sudo ./Teltonika\ PROFINET\ Configurator_0.1.0_amd64.AppImage
Step 4: Application Interface
After launching with admin rights, the application will open successfully.
ℹ️ The images show TSW202 because its interface and configuration process are identical to other PROFINET-supported devices, including the one used in this tutorial. This makes the instructions fully applicable across models.
Step 6: Select Network Interface
From the drop-down list, select the correct network adapter connected to the SWM280, then press Start Scan.
Step 7: Configure SWM280
The connected device (SWM280) will appear in the list.
Click Configure to assign the name, IP address, netmask, and gateway.
Enter the desired configuration and press Save & Apply.
Step 8: Confirm Device Configuration
After saving, a confirmation message will appear.
The SWM280 will now be listed with its new IP configuration.
Step 9: Access the WebUI
Open a browser and enter the assigned IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.5). The SWM280 WebUI login screen will appear.
Log in using your SWM280 device credentials. You will find the username and password are located on your device.

The new password must consist of a minimum of 8 characters. Requirements: one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and one digit. |
SWM281 Installation Instructions
Overview
The SWM281 is designed for installation into a standard 19-inch rack cabinet. The mounting brackets are integrated into the device housing and do not require separate attachment.
Important Notice
Before installing the SWM281, review the official spatial measurements and weight information to ensure rack compatibility:

Required Tools
- Phillips screwdriver
- Rack mounting screws
- Cage nut insertion tool (recommended)
Installation Procedure
1. Prepare the Rack
- Select the desired rack unit (U) position for the SWM281.
- Ensure the rack posts are properly aligned and accessible from the front.
- Install cage nuts into the square holes of the rack posts at the selected height:
- Two cage nuts on the left front rack post
- Two cage nuts on the right front rack post
Note: Ensure cage nuts are fully seated in the square holes.

2. Mount the SWM281 into the Rack
- Carefully lift the SWM281 and position it at the selected rack height.
- Align the integrated mounting bracket holes with the cage nuts in the rack posts.
- Insert the rack mounting screws through the bracket holes into the cage nuts.
- Partially tighten all screws to allow for alignment.
- Once aligned, fully tighten all screws on both sides.

3. Verify Installation
- Ensure the device is level and firmly secured.
- Confirm that all mounting screws are fully tightened.
- Gently push the device to verify there is no movement.
Installation Notes
- All expansion bolts for securing the rack base to the ground are installed from bottom to up in the sequence of large flat washer, spring washer, and nut, and the installation holes on the base are flush with the expansion bolts.
- The rack is stable and sturdy after installation has been completed.
- The rack is installed on the ground vertically.
- When multiple racks are placed side by side in the equipment room, they are parallel in a line with a deviation of up to 5 mm (0.20 in.).
- The front and rear doors of the rack can open and close properly after installation has been completed. Also verify that the cabinet locks are functioning and that there are a complete set of keys.
- All labeling on the rack and equipment is accurate.
- Filler panels are installed in the empty slots.
- All the screws and bolts that will be used to install the rack are of the same type.
- All modules installed in the equipment are secured and all captive screws are properly tightened.
- In order to prevent rodents and other small animals from entering the rack, the cabling exit openings at the top and bottom of the rack are fitted with rodent-resistant nets with seams of up to 15 mm (0.59 in.) in diameter.
- The rack always has a set of static-preventive wrist straps available.
Compliance
SWM281 must be used in compliance with any and all applicable national and international laws and with any special restrictions regulating the utilization of the communication module in prescribed applications and environments.

Operating conditions
- Operating temperature: 0° to +50° Celsius
- Humidity should be in the range of 5% to 95% (non-condensing). Only use the device in dry environments.
- Out of direct sunlight
- Away from heat source, corrosive substances, salts, and flammable gases
Attention: operation outside the permissible range can considerably shorten the service life of the device.
Faulty and damaged products
- Do not attempt to disassemble the device or its accessories.
- Only qualified personnel must service or repair the device or its accessories.
- If your device or its accessories have been submerged in water punctured or subjected to a severe fall, do not use until they have been checked at an authorized service center.
Electrical safety
- Only use approved accessories.
- Do not connect with incompatible products or accessories.
- It is recommended to ground devices with grounding terminals before connecting them to power. Failure to ground appropriately might result in a shock hazard. The cross-sectional area of the protective grounding conductor should be at least 1mm2.

Laser safety
The optical transceivers are Class I laser products. Attention should be paid to the following items:
- When an optical transceiver is working, ensure that the port is connected to an optical cable or covered by dust cap to keep out dust and prevent burning your eyes.

System Grounding
A reliable grounding system is the basis for stable and reliable operation, which is indispensable for preventing lightning strikes and interference. Carefully check the grounding conditions at the installation site according to the grounding specifications, and complete grounding properly based on the site situation.
- Safety Grounding
Ensure that the rack and power distribution system are securely grounded. Otherwise, electric shocks may occur when the insulation resistance between the power module and the chassis becomes small.
Caution
The building should provide a protective ground connection to ensure that the equipment is connected to a protective earth.
Product handling
- You alone are responsible for how you use your device and any consequences related to its use.
- Use of your device is subject to safety measures designed to protect users and their environment.
- Always treat your device and its accessories with care and keep it in a clean and dust-free place.
- Do not expose your device or its accessories to open flames, lit tobacco products, liquid, moisture, or high humidity.
- Do not drop, throw or try to bend your device or its accessories.
- Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or aerosols to clean the device or its accessories.
- Do not paint your device or its accessories.
- Do not attempt to disassemble your device (exemptions for devices that require disassembly for SIM insertion) or its accessories: it does not contain any user-serviceable parts. For safety reasons, the equipment should be opened only by qualified personnel.
- Make sure to use ESD personal protective equipment while the equipment is serviced.
- Do not use your device in an enclosed environment where heat dissipation is poor.
- Prolonged use in such space may cause excessive heat and raise ambient temperature, which will lead to the automatic shutdown of your device or the disconnection of the mobile network connection for your safety. To use your device again after such a shutdown, cool it in a well-ventilated place before turning it on.
- Please check all national laws and local regulations for the disposal of electronic products.
- Do not operate the device where ventilation is restricted.
- Do not use or install this product near water to avoid fire or shock hazards.
- Avoid exposing the equipment to rain or damp areas.
- Arrange power and Ethernet cables so that they are not likely to be stepped on or have items placed on them.

- The device may become warm during regular use.
- Operation of this equipment in a residential environment could cause radio interference.
- This equipment is not suitable for use in locations where children are likely to be present.
- This equipment should be installed in the equipment room. Only a skilled person should be allowed to install, replace, or service this equipment. Do not open the enclosure when the equipment is running. Cut off the power supply before opening the enclosure in case of an electric shock.
